Where to install a strainers

The location of mesh filters in engineering system diagrams is regulated by regulatory documents and installation instructions for pipeline fittings that require protection from mechanical inclusions in the working environment.

A mechanical filter is installed:

• Before electric and gas boilers and water heaters.
• Before control valves of heat flow regulators.
• Before pressure regulators and differential pressure regulators of any design.
• Before plate heat exchangers and some types of shell and tube heat exchangers.
• Before mechanical flow meters, some types of ultrasonic and electromagnetic flow meters.
• Before circulating and booster pumps, with the installation of a mesh filter being particularly important before pumps with wet rotors.

A mesh filter may not be installed if another filter is already installed on this pipeline within 10 meters.
