Adjusting the water flow regulator

Setting up a water flow regulator of direct action is carried out after filling the pipeline with water during the commissioning of the entire system. If the required flow is known precisely, and the position on the adjustment scale is clearly defined, it is permissible to adjust the flow regulator before filling the pipeline with water.

The flow regulator is adjusted by rotating the handle that changes the hydraulic resistance of the throttle until the flow is aligned with the desired value. To facilitate the flow adjustment and monitor the regulator's operation, it is necessary to install a pressure gauge at the impulse intake point.

The accuracy of maintaining the water flow is checked by a direct method using a flow meter installed on the same pipeline, or indirectly, for example, in the case of a heating system, with the known thermal power, the flow can be determined by the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the system.

The flow regulator is tested by changing the water pressure before or after it. The water pressure is changed by any regulating or shutoff valve installed on the same pipeline, while paying attention to the speed of the regulator's response and the accuracy of flow maintenance.
