The pressure tank functions as a damper and is necessary to reduce the frequency of pump activation. If the tank and the pump station control automation are not properly configured, the following operating conditions may occur:
Setting up the pressure tank involves creating the initial gas chamber pressure Pgas in the tank and configuring the pump control automation accordingly, with activation pressure Pmin and deactivation pressure Pmax.
In the online calculation section, you will find a form to help you calculate the pressure in the pressure tank for proper setup.
Before connecting the pressure tank to the water supply system, an initial gas chamber pressure Pgas corresponding to your operating conditions must be set.
If the pressure in the tank, set by the supplier, is higher than the calculated value, air should be released through the valve. If the pressure is lower than required, the tank should be inflated through the valve using a compressor.
When the calculated pressure is set in the tank, its entire volume is filled with air. After the pump is switched on, the system is filled with water, and as soon as the water pressure exceeds the gas pressure, water enters the tank by stretching the membrane and compressing the gas. When the system reaches the minimum operating pressure Pmin, the tank will be filled with water by 10–15%.
A 15% water reserve in the pressure tank is necessary to cover water consumption during the time between the pump being switched on and the water reaching the tap. Without this reserve, an unstable water supply may occur, with interruptions when the tank has been emptied but the pump has not yet started.
The automation controlling the pump must start the pump when the pressure drops to Pmin and stop the pump when the pressure reaches Pmax.
